Update to 2.0 version of WP Youtube Channel Gallery

Hello every body,

In the 2.0 version of WP Youtube Channel Gallery plugin you can found this modifications:

Now you have 2 ways to configure and use:

  • The first way is using the widget for any sidebar of your blog.
  • The second way is using our shortcode (look the FAQ tab in Plugin Directory to see how to use it)

And you have five options to set up:

  • Widget Title: The title to be displayed on sidebar
  • Channel Name: The name of channel that you want to list
  • # Videos: Number of videos to be displayed
  • Width in px: Width of youtube player (The height will be calculated)
  • Show Video Title: A switch to select if you want to display the video title

I have to thank Brad Trivers(http://SunriseWeb.ca) to help me on the changes

You can see this on: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-youtube-channel-gallery/

    Thank you Bruno – nice work! It has been a pleasure. I wonder if you’ll receive any more suggestions for enhancements?

    • #2 by brunoneves on November 8, 2010 - 7:53 pm

      Yeah dude!!

      Anybody can suggest anything. I wanna that’s keep improving to help so more developers.

      • #3 by Brad Trivers on November 8, 2010 - 9:24 pm

        Here’s a thought – display the existing videos in a channel feed and let users check off which ones they want displayed. As more videos are added to the channel they aren’t displayed until the user goes back to the widget and checks them off.

    Hat tip to Bruno and Brad. Great plugin, very useful. For WP newbies, if after you upgrade you think the plugin has “disappeared”, think again. Simply go to your widgets panel and move it back into place. You will likely need to add your details for the Youtube channel and how many vids you wish to display. Once again, great product! Thanks!

      I thank you for the compliments, man. Good use! And spread it! 😉

    • #7 by brunoneves on November 16, 2010 - 9:59 pm

      Dave,
      What is the problem you are encountering? Please describe it here or by e-mail.
      Thnks!

      • #8 by Dave Curthoys on November 17, 2010 - 8:46 pm

        Its ok I sorted it out. it will only show movies that you have uploaded to your channel. it wont show the same movie if you just save it to your favoriets from another channel

    I’m using your WP YouTube Channel Gallery. IT’s great, is there a way to have them in columns. Looking to do have 3 across then return to a new line and do it again.
    Thanks,

    • #10 by brunoneves on December 7, 2010 - 5:15 pm

      Thanks for the compliment!

      Enjoy it guy!

    • #11 by Brad Trivers on December 7, 2010 - 5:43 pm

      Glad to here it is useful for you!

      To get the “column” effect you can apply CSS to the class “wp_youtube_gallery” that is used for the video ‘s. Adjust the size of the videos and the padding in the CSS until you get the right number of videos displaying in columns for the width of your site’s pages.

      Also you can adjust the size of the title text by styling the element inside the wp_youtube_gallery .

      For example add the following to your theme’s style.css file:

      .wp_youtube_gallery {
      position: relative;
      float: left;
      padding: 10px;
      }

      .wp_youtube_gallery h4 {
      font-size: 0.5em;
      }

      Bruno – the “showtitle” option does not seem to be working when using the short code to embed in a page. I worked around this by adding the “display: none” styling to the .wpyoutube_gallery styling:

      .wp_youtube_gallery h4 {
      font-size: 0.5em;
      display: none;
      }

      • #12 by Brad Trivers on December 7, 2010 - 5:53 pm

        Oops – my “div” and “h4” references in the above post were lost because I put them in angle brackets – doh!

        At any rate you can see an example of a “3 column” layout with 9 videos displayed at the bottom of this post.

  5. #13 by Rick on December 7, 2010 - 6:39 pm

    This was really helpful and worked like a charm. Wondering if you know why in ie7 (Other thatn the fact that IE is a pain) is pushing the second column down a bit. you can see it in the example link you gave me. Any ideas on how to line it up a little better?
    Thanks,

    • #14 by Brad Trivers on December 13, 2010 - 1:42 pm

      Hmmmm – looks like there is extra margin being added to the video divs starting with the 2nd one in the 2nd row. Not sure of the workaround to this IE problem. I’ll let you know when I figure it out as I will need to use this technique for a musician site I’m currently building that will include a YouTube channel.

      • #15 by Brad Trivers on January 26, 2011 - 6:21 pm

        Finally got a chance to look at this. The paragraph tags added after each video div element seem to be the problem (line 68 and 185 in wp-youtube-list-channel.php). Not sure these are even needed. I removed them and all is good. Bruno?

        Also I recommend clearing any existing floats both above and below the shortcode when displaying videos in this manner:

        [youtubechannel channelname="GoogleDevelopers" numvideos="9" width="175"]

      • #16 by Brad Trivers on January 26, 2011 - 6:24 pm

        p> /p>

        div style=”clear: both;”> /div>
        [youtubechannel channelname=”GoogleDevelopers” numvideos=”9″ width=”175″]
        div style=”clear: both;”> /div>

    Hi Bruno,

    I was wondering if there’s any way for the blog to display a list of thumbnails (that produce a thickbox or somesuch in a pop-up) instead of an actual embedded player?

    Thanks

    • #18 by brunoneves on December 9, 2010 - 6:01 pm

      Hello Mike,

      Hava a way to do this.. you can manipulate it with any JS libs. If you want a produced example.. please sende me an e-mail.

      see ya!

  7. #19 by MIke on December 11, 2010 - 6:44 pm

    Hiya,

    I can’t find your email address anywhere! I would like to see an example though; I wouldn’t know where to start by myself.

    Thanks Bruno

  8. #20 by Jon on December 13, 2010 - 2:39 am

    Thanks for the plug-in Bruno. V2.0 is working well. Two things though.

    First, a little more control over the CSS around the widget would be nice (. Seems strange to me to use an h2 tag for the widget title AND the video title.. I changed the video title to h2, although it’s easy enough to override the CSS by class I guess.

    Second, it’s be nice to be able to pull in the color schemes from YouTube.

    Finally… there is a bug in Chrome’s Flash implementation (I’ve seen it come in go, but seems to be back). Anyway the flash object will render on top of a modal window popup (fancybox). The solution is simple, add a wmode=”opaque” to the so I added that in on line 185 of wp-youtube-list-channel.php and no more problems with Chrome’s beta versions.

    • #21 by brunoneves on December 13, 2010 - 4:37 am

      Thanks Jon!

      I’ll check this two things and this Chrome bug!
      I realy like the second tip, is so userful!

      The 2.1 version is coming on.. =D

      see ya!

  9. #22 by Marc on December 14, 2010 - 9:28 pm

    Thanks for your work on this plug-in – much appreciated. I have some very small requests that could be implemented in the next version, if you’d be so kind:

    1. Could you please add a switch in the widget settings to switch between displaying ‘uploads’ ‘favorites’ and ‘playlists’?

    2. Could you also add a switch to disable/hide the related videos that appear (&rel=0) when the video is moused over?

    I’ve manually edited these bits myself in the ‘wp-youtube-list-channel.php’ but it would be great to have them as options in the widget settings.

    Thanks again for your hard work and thanks for listening.

    • #23 by Bruce Dell on May 26, 2012 - 1:08 pm

      Hi Marc. Came across this comment after looking to do the same thing with disabling the related videos (rel=0). You said you had been able to do in the php file. Could you please share how you did this? Thanks so much.

    • #24 by brunoneves on May 27, 2012 - 1:44 pm

      Marc Thanks for the cheers! Certainly these ideas are very great and i’ll put it in the new version!

    Bruno, Love your plugin. I had a question, how can I use this plug in 2-3 times in the same sidebar? When I try to do this, only one of the videochannels plays.

    Thanks.

  11. #26 by IPBrian on December 31, 2010 - 8:01 pm

    Hey Bruno,
    I worked all day yesterday to try to Youtube videos onto a site via RSS or the googlecode bar with no luck. I then found your plugin and it made things much easier. Kudos on the great job!

    I have a few of suggestions.

    What about player styling? Any chance there could be some options for the player in the future?

    I would personally like to add the date in in addition to the title.

    I realize I can probably achieve these things by editing the source code, but then I will lose everything when you update. 🙂

    Again thanks for the plugin…great job!

    Thanks, great plugin! Only one thing on the wishlist: to be able to use more than one youtubechannel-tag on the same page or in the same post. If I put in two tags with my youtube-channelname and my wifes channel, it only inserts media from the latest tag.

  15. #30 by thiago silva on July 5, 2011 - 3:07 pm

    Hello bruno,
    thanks for publishing your plugin.

    Could you specify the copyright/license for it? I’m willing to use you plugin for a government platform (for brazilian Ministry of Justice) but we can only use free software (which means, we can only use software licensed with GPL or compatible with GPL licenses).

    Please, let me know if you do so.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Bruno,

    Great plugin. Thank you. I’m having a couple issues:

    1. Even though I choose not to show the video title in the shortcode, it still shows.

    2. Is the video title is going to show, is there a way to put it below the video and not on top?

    3. On iPad/iPhone, when pics open in Lightbox on the same page where I am using the shortcode, the video appears on top on the Lightbox. How can I fix that.

    4. And finally, is there a way to customize the appearance on the video i.e. adding a frame.

    Cheers and thanks again.

    • #33 by brunoneves on September 29, 2011 - 4:40 pm

      Hi Eric,

      All your issues will be solved with CSS adjustment, except the first one that is a plugin bug and i’ll look it.

      Thanks,

  17. #34 by Whitesnake on October 8, 2011 - 8:07 am

    Good work mate! Just two suggestions… Can you make it for a valid XHTML? I get lots of error and is not good for SEO. And second one, as others ask, will be fantastic idea to have the option to choose the videos you want to display from the channel. Thanks!

    • #35 by brunoneves on October 9, 2011 - 2:35 pm

      Hello Whitesnake,

      About you second sugestion i cant do this, because it’s are out of my idea for this project and about valid xHTML i don’t know whats happening and i’ll give a look.

      Thanks,

    Is it possible to embed more than one shortcode into a page so that I could have the latest videos from different channels on the same page?

    Thanks

  21. #42 by Tim on February 19, 2012 - 3:37 am

    Hi Bruno. Love your plugin. Very easy to use. One question though, and hopefully this is a simple one for you. I have used the plugin via the widget, but want to centre the video. At the moment it seems to be set to appear on the left. Is this possible? Thanks.

    • #43 by brunoneves on February 19, 2012 - 3:56 pm

      Hey Tim, Using widget or shortcode way, this plugin insert the videos using some HTML tags. You can use CSS rules to position the youtube elements.
      Any thing else please, come back the contact!

    Can you tell me how to fix it.
    Thanks

    • #48 by brunoneves on August 4, 2012 - 1:13 pm

      Hey Mohammad Intsar,

      I’ve talked to you by email and another post, but i’ll answer here too in the case of anybody else have the same problem.

      Your problem is a youtube’s issue. To keep the proportion, the YT makes black lines at movie sides.
      Unfortunately, is not a problem that we’ve power to change.

      Thanks for the contact,
      Cheers,
